Custom Gunsmithing done on a Gen 3 Glock 19. Grip Reduction, undercut, grip job, aftermarket trigger by Glock Worx, internal magwell. This allows the gun to cycle mechanically faster, and allows for a super light and smooth trigger break. Externally, the Fulcrum Trigger still features the Glock style trigger safety.
The problem with the firearms world exploding into mainstream popularity is the stupid that gathers around it. Seriously, the pre-internet era gun world was a small place and only a little stupid. Now in an era of internet and cheap manufacturing we have more stupid than we can handle. The dumbest gear will always revolve around popular platforms, the AK, the AR, and of course, the Glock.
The Glock is likely the most issued handgun in the United States. It’s used in limited capacities by the military, and embraced fully by the civilian market. Glocks are fantastic pistols, but man there are some dumb accessories and modifications out there for Glocks. Today we are looking at the top 10 dumb Glock accessories and modifications.
1. Cringey Back Plates
Let’s get this out of the way now. Do whatever you want with your gun, but if you put on a Punisher, SheepDog, or Pipehitter back plate on your Glock you aren’t tough, you’re cringey. These look dumb, but don’t affect function in anyway. They are the least dumb thing on this list since they don’t affect function and are cheap.
Now not all back plates are cringey. For every “You’re Fucked” back plate there is something simple and cool like an American flag. Stick to simple, humble, and even nerdy. You can express yourself a hundred different ways with a Glock, but don’t express the fact you’re a douchebag with it.
2. APS Conception Quick Tactical Holster
Condition three carry is one of the dumbest concepts in the concealed carry lexicon. The act of carrying a gun with an empty chamber needs to die. We’ve come so far forward in the competition, and tactical realm that this is just antiquated. If you are too scared to carry with a round in the chamber, then don’t carry a gun. Certainly, don’t go out and buy a holster that’s designed to help you rack your gun.
The APS Concept’s Quick Tactical Holster is designed to allow you to rack the gun on your holster. This way you can go from condition 3 to being a grown up with a loaded chamber. The idea is you hit the active retention release, rotate the gun and holster slightly away from your body on a hinge and shove the gun downwards to rack it. That’s not all, the holster doesn’t cover the trigger. So, if you need to return the gun to the holster you have to empty the chamber or risk an ND due to an exposed trigger.3. FAB Defense Tactic Skin Glock Slide Cover
Custom Glock slides are all the rage these days. Companies like ZEV Tech take a stock Glock slide and make it both beautiful and functional. I’m not against slide customization, but Tactic Skin is ridiculous. Instead of customizing your gun, its sticking some rubber over the slide to make it appear customized. The manufacturer calls it polymer composite, but who really knows what that means.
It makes me want to ask some questions, like how well will handle heat? Will it expand when hot and droop and drag on the slide and cause malfunctions? Does it make my gun wider? Will it work with every holster? Most of all, what’s the freakin’ point? This is for that guy that wants to look cool, but can’t really afford it.
4. FAB Defense Universal Attachment for Glock 19 (UTA 19)
Have you ever wanted to take your Glock and turn into a foregrip for your rifle? No, because you’re a normal person and not an idiot. For other people who may have this retarded desire there is the FAB Defense UTA 19. It fits up the butt of your Glock and leads upwards to a Picatinny rail adapter.
This holds the Glock under the rifle and acts as a terrible foregrip due to how low it hangs. It also makes it difficult to grip your rifle in any other way. The idea is if your rifle runs out of ammo, you already have the Glock in your hand. This whole product is stupid. How accurate is aiming the Glock? Will the Glock stay there if you release your grip? is practicing reloading and drawing really that hard? Oh, it’s also turning your Glock into an SBR, so tread carefully.
5. Full Conceal Folding Glocks
Let’s take your Glock, cut the grip off, and then add a hinge to the grip. Then you can fold your fold in half for easier carry. What do you think? If your response is “LOL,” then you and I are speaking the same language. Full Conceal on the other hand thinks this is a great idea and wants to charge you $1,399 for it.
They claim it will give you a full-sized pistol at a subcompact size. I say it will give you an overpriced, half broken Glock. With the ridiculous number of holsters out there for concealing everything from Subcompacts to full sized guns the fact that someone will go with a $1,399 folding Glock is ridiculous.
6. Alternative Ballistics Non Lethal Attachment
Pop Quiz, A Self Defense Gun is designed to be _____
A. Dangerous
B. Lethal
C. Non Lethal
D. Both A and B and never ever C.
B. Lethal
C. Non Lethal
D. Both A and B and never ever C.
I think we know the answer here, but Alternative Ballistics does not. There idea is for Police officers to strap a device on the front of their Glocks that holds a clown nose sized, “Alloy projectile,” in front of the barrel. When you fire your Glock, with a real bullet, it will embed itself in the alloy projectile and send it running downrange.
The alloy projectile catches the bullet and apparently is so big it’s much slower. It simply impacts the threat and causes severe pain. So, to be clear, you are using a real Glock, a real bullet, with a nonlethal contraption. Where are the human test subjects who signed up to see just how non-lethal the Alternative is? Where is the facts and evidence we need to see how safe this thing is? If this is actually “Non-lethal” or even “Less than Lethal” will someone please point me to some data.
Also there is a reason we have dedicated non lethal weapons, and we don’t try to turn lethal to non lethal.
7. MBX Magazine DED Blade
Marketing 101 teaches you to know your customers, so I can see why people often assume guys who like guns like knives. It’s mostly true. That doesn’t mean we want knives attached to our guns. Don’t tell MBX that though. Their over $300 dollar DED Magazine Base Interchange system is exactly that.
Pistol whipping may be a time-honored tradition for movie tough guys, but what about pistol stabbing? With the DED blade and MBX magazine you get the ability to add a knife to your magazine base plate for roughly $330 bucks. There is also a trainer blade so you can practice gun stabbing! Jesus, Mary and Joseph if someone ever kills me with this please tell my family I died choking on peanut butter.
8. Medieval Meat Hammer Baseplate
Since we are on weaponized base plates let’s look at the Medieval Meat Hammer Glock base plate. I could like this if it was a joke and the ad was just some guy actually beating some meat… wait, that sounded wrong. I meant if it was used in the kitchen. But no, this is for hitting people. Apparently shooting people is too hard to do with a gun, so we need to stab/hammer them.
The Meat Hammer comes from a company that makes fidget spinners and that tells me all I need to know about these stupid things. Each one will cost you $25. I’d suggest you take that money and just buy more ammo and mags instead of going melee with your gun.
9. Battleworn Finishes
This is new and as dumb on Glocks as it is on AR-15s. The idea that you are paying extra to make your gun look worn out is stupid. This is like paying for pre-ripped jeans, it’s dumb, obnoxious, and makes you look dumb. You can get a worn finish for free with one simple trick…
Whispers quietly, “Go shoot your gun more….” Seriously stop paying to look like you shoot. This reminds me of those guys who go out and take sandpaper to their knife’s black finishes to look worn. It’s lame, and you’re lame for having it.
10. Safe Draw Passive Safety Kit
Finally, our tenth and final accessory/modification. This one is in the name of safety. Normally I’m all about safety and using common sense around guns. This thing though, is far from common sense. It attaches behind your trigger and acts as a trigger block. The tool itself is two different pieces, an upper and lower. The lower attaches to the trigger guard and the upper takes its place behind the trigger.
This device still allow you to pull the trigger but requires 17 pounds of pull to break the snap in ‘upper.’
The upper is meant to be disposable. Use it once and toss it. You attach the uppers to a permanent lower upon installation. The idea seems to be you can just leave the gun in a sock drawer and its cool cause your kids can’t pull the trigger anyway. How about you just have the weapon either under your control or locked away at all times? If you have kids in the home and this is your solution you are probably putting them in more danger. 17 pounds of trigger could cause you to throw your shot, sending it god knows where in a home defense scenario.
Glocked Out
The Glock in all its incarnations is a proven and reliable platform. From the factory they are great guns. Surely, a little modification here or there isn’t too bad. A good light, better sights, maybe a threaded barrel for your can. Just never go full Glocktard.

“Springs will always be with us,” says Sweeney. “If you are going to go and do some really high-volume practice or competition, you should invest in spare magazine springs. The problem isn’t leaving them loaded but in using them. The repeated cycling is what wears out a magazine, not leaving it stressed. (At least not good ones.) I’ve had good luck for a long time with Wolff springs and recently with ISMI springs. I’ve been putting tens of thousands of rounds through an ISMI recoil spring for a 1911 that has not showed significant compression set yet.”
Glock Magazines and Accessories
You’ll learn all about Glock mags – the 5 different types and variations and how to identify them, plus Glock mag add-ons to improve function for specific applications. Our resident Glock expert, Patrick Sweeney, covers Glock mag extensions and mag springs as well.
“I know of more than one Glock owner who has never had his magazines apart,” writes Sweeney. “Partly because they never fail (at least in 9mm) but also partly due to the sometimes difficult disassembly procedure. While stripping the pistol is a piece of cake, getting the magazines apart can sometimes be a real hassle. The nature of the polymer is the problem. Since it is a slightly flexible material, the interlocking parts of the magazine have to be relatively large and strong to take the load. The magazine is composed of five parts; the tube, follower, spring, retainer and baseplate. (Some very old magazines were made without the internal retaining plate.)”
